The Treasury Department Considers Unique $1 Trump Coin Displaying ‘Fight, Fight, Fight’ Inscription
In honor of the semiquincentennial of the United States' independence, the US Treasury is considering the minting of a $1 coin featuring former President Donald Trump with a tightened fist under an Stars and Stripes and the words “fight, fight, fight”.
Event-Driven Reference
These words directly references what Trump exclaimed following narrowly surviving an assassination effort four months before he secured a second presidency.
Public Revelation
US Treasurer Brandon Beach shared a preliminary design of the coin on recently via social media, stating: “This is genuine. These concepts honoring America’s 250th birthday and [Trump] are authentic.”
The social media post – which amplified another user reacting to the draft design – indicated that Beach looked “eager to provide updates” after the resolution of the government funding lapse that started after midnight Wednesday when opposition lawmakers insisting on changes on medical care and other funding matters declined to offer the support necessary to pass a Republican-backed funding bill.
Authorization History
As reported, in 2020, at the close of his first administration, Trump enacted bipartisan legislation authorizing the Treasury head to issue $1 coins during the upcoming anniversary year that are “representative of the United States semiquincentennial”.
Appearance Elements
One side of the coin on whose concept Beach remarked this week displayed Trump’s likeness alongside “Freedom”, “Our Trust in God”, and “from 1776 to 2026”.
The back referenced the assassination attempt at a campaign event in PA last year, when officials said a sniper wounded Trump’s hearing and hurt two others before being killed by the Secret Service.
Trump raised his fist after the attack – one of two assassination attempts for him as he campaign victoriously for a second presidential term in 2024 – and shouted, “Fight, fight, fight!” with an US flag prominent nearby.
Clarification
A response from a treasury department spokesperson indicated that the draft which Beach’s X post discussed was not the “final $1 coin design”. But the response emphasized that “this concept effectively captures the persistent ethos of our country and democratic system, even in the midst of significant challenges”.
Public Context
Trump’s approval rating on overall has declined to negative figures, as his current term has reduced health coverage and dietary support that benefits the low-income, while also imposing import taxes that came before a documented surge in cost of living.
Among other things, the administration has also sent US military troops into the streets of several metropolitan areas, eliminated roughly $500 million in financing for inoculations such as the ones that contributed to ending the coronavirus crisis, and faced challenges to manage a scandal over his former association with notorious offender Jeffrey Epstein.
