The Two Sergeants Instants Before the Attacker Was Tasered

One ranking policeman who rushed to the assistance of a colleague that was assaulted by a knifeman has been awarded the Monarch's Honor for Courage.

Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he placed a knife to the neck of his colleague Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the officers and their partner, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a driver subsequent to a traffic accident in that location in mid-2023.

Brown knifed and cut the two Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft stopped him with a stun gun.

"Officer attacked," PC Wolstencroft was heard to say over his radio.

Bodyworn and dashboard camera footage released by the police department depicted Brown, that was clothed in black with a head covered, approach to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a knife pointed forward.

He struck the policeman who tripped and fell to the street, before Sergeant Ansell intervened and tried to wrestle him to the pavement despite being continually attacked with the knife.

PC Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and waited for a safe opportunity, concluding the fight to an conclusion.

Sgt Ansell can be heard to say: "Can I get something on my throat now, I got knifed in the throat."

Sgt Ansell received two lacerations to his neck and further injuries to his limbs and body, whereas Sergeant Foster suffered cut injuries.

Officials reported Sergeant Foster employed his hands to stem his fellow officer's hemorrhaging prior to medical personnel arrived.

This most recent recognition follows subsequent to the three officers won organizational Courage Honors in fall 2023 and the police federation award from the regional union branch in April 2024.

They were also awarded a Regional Bravery Award in mid-2024.

"The actions of the entire team in the end saved each other and ensured no members of the public endured any injuries."

Brown received a sentence to an indefinite hospital order in early 2024, per authorities.
