The Manchester United manager has made it clear that he will not resign from his position in spite of the team's current difficulties, but he concedes that he could face the sack if performances fail to improve.

Present Challenges & Table Position

Amorim has collected only thirty-four points across his 33 top-flight games, and Manchester United currently sitting in 14th place in the standings after a 15th-place finish the previous campaign. United have managed just two wins in the first seven games this season, including a shock League Cup defeat against Grimsby Town and last weekend's loss to Brentford FC. That result prolonged the manager's quest to secure his first consecutive Premier League wins after taking over 11 months previously.

This Saturday, Sunderland will visit Old Trafford, where another loss would increase the pressure on Amorim.

Amorim's Stance Regarding Resignation

When asked on if he would consider resigning, Amorim responded: “Absolutely not, that is a decision of the board. I won't take that step. At times I get those thoughts and losing is hard, not to create the momentum. It’s so frustrating after building that momentum, go to the next game, something happens. That feeling often affects me a lot. It impacts the players and especially the staff here. But it isn't my choice and I believe it would be extremely difficult to walk away unless I don’t do everything to pursue my path at United.”

“It is a dream to be here and I wish to stay here and I'm determined to fight for this. However the issue now what makes me suffer is to lose matches, not to lose my job. You fear to lose your job if you have to pay expenses and I don’t feel that pressure.”

Explaining His Formation System

The 40-year-old also offered an impassioned defense of his three-at-the-back system, that has been the focus for plenty of scrutiny. The coach has deployed this setup in every game yet it has yet to provide steady results desired.

“No one here is naive,” he commented. “We know that the team must win to continue our plans. We will get to a stage where it's untenable for all involved because United is a very big club with a lot of partners, under dual ownership. It's challenging, the balance is really hard. My aim is for my team – winning or defeat – playing the same way but we're failing to do that.”

He pointed out that the team used various formations under previous managers, yet without success. “We must to play the same way, with the same power, with the same energy, with the required focus. Should we achieve that, the system won't matter which setup we use.”

Plans for Winter Friendlies

Amorim confirmed plans to arrange lucrative winter friendlies to help increase funds lost due to failing to qualify for Europe. “We have to do it and we knew it when we miss Europe,” he said. “We have our fans and financial needs and we aim to be with supporters around the world.”

Memorial to Synagogue Attack

United will observe a moment of silence on Saturday with the squad sporting black armbands as a mark of respect following the terrorist attack at a synagogue on Thursday. Local rivals City will do likewise during their league and Women’s Super League fixtures over the coming days.
